Nick Lambert’s Cross Country Inspiration

In honor of Down syndrome Awareness Month – DSACO is sharing stories about Acceptance, Awareness and Inclusion.

Sports isn’t just about winning and losing, and it’s not even just about how you play the game. Sometimes, as in the case of a Dublin middle-schooler, it can serve a much greater inspiration for life.

Dublin City Schools shared a recent video from Nick Lambert’s family, showing just what running with a team has meant to the teen, who has Down syndrome.

Nick runs cross country at Karrer Middle School. While his teammates finish long before he does, the family says they always double back to run with Nick and help him finish the race after they’re done.

The video, posted to YouTube, shows how the whole team surrounding Nick, jogging along and cheering him across the finish line. The family says the support from his peers and the exercise he gets participating in cross country has helped him physically, socially, and mentally.

With the help of his mom and caregiver, Nick set a goal of running a race in less than 30 minutes this season. This week, he did just that, with the whole team right beside him.

Awesome job Nick! Thanks for inspiring us all to just keep working towards a goal!
