The Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio (DSACO) was incorporated in 1984 with one purpose in mind, to accomplish our mission to support families, promote community involvement, and encourage a lifetime of opportunities for people with Down syndrome. We believe this can be achieved by providing families and individuals living with Down syndrome with meaningful, convenient, and unique opportunities to discover independence and to celebrate their achievements.

Program Manager of Education and School Age Services

Status:           Full-time Exempt

Pay Range:   $50,000-60,000

Location:      Hybrid

Position Overview

The Program Manager of Education and School Age Services is responsible for overseeing the organization’s educational programs and building relationships with key stakeholders to support the mission of DSACO. This role will focus on promoting inclusive educational practices, developing and overseeing new programs and resources, and facilitating the management of school age services. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting people with Down syndrome and their families.

Primary Responsibilities

Education Program Management

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of DSACO’s educational programs, including the Summer Learning Academy
  • Build & distribute Book Bundles, Classroom Awareness Packets, IEP Kits, and other statewide initiatives
  • Collaborate with local school districts, educators, and community organizations to promote inclusive practices for students with Down syndrome
  • Develop and maintain educational resources for families, caregivers, and professionals
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with other ElevateDD communities to facilitate improvement and innovation so that we may better serve our members
  • Coordinate awareness initiatives and ensure effective delivery of materials
  • Stay current on best practices in special education and inclusive methods to inform program development
  • Oversee and implement DSACO’s Post-Secondary Scholarship for people with Down syndrome and their family members
  • Oversee the Jump Start swim clinic partnership with Goldfish Swim School
  • Provide oversight of school-aged groups by supporting resource group leaders, managing the schedules and budget, and other duties as needed
  • Develop, present, and maintain a library of inclusion resources, educator tools, and informational webinars

Community Engagement and Support

  • Work closely with parents and caregivers to understand their needs and incorporate their feedback into program development
  • Serve as the main point of contact for educational inquiries and provide guidance and resources to families and schools
  • Provide support for families as needed, such as attending IEP meetings

Data and Reporting

  • Collect and analyze data to assess the impact of educational programs, such as student progress in the Summer Learning Academy, through the use of surveys, feedback forms, and other methods of data collection
  • Use data to refine programs, measure outcomes, and inform grant proposals
  • Develop comprehensive reports for internal use and external stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission and vision of the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, nonprofit management, special education, or a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in education
  • Strong understanding of special education, IEPs, and inclusive classroom practices
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and members
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends as required for programs and events
  • Familiarity with the Down syndrome community and/or broader developmental disability community, its resources, and values
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality with personal information
  • Nice-to-have: Experience working with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with the Ohio education system and special education resources
  • Nice-to-have: Experience using data management systems for tracking program outcomes

Family Navigator, Black and African American Families

Job Title:  Family Navigator, Black and African American Families 

Supervisor:  Program Manager of Diversity Outreach 

Pay Range: $22/Hour  

Status: Part-time, flexible hours 

Location: Hybrid  

Position Overview

The Family Navigator for Black and African American Families is responsible for ensuring that we provide the highest quality services to all of our families by accurately representing the rich ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic diversity of the people with Down syndrome in our community. The primary duties of this role include connecting families in an effort to establish a compassionate and supportive community, collaborating with the DSACO team to advocate for families and link them with resources, overseeing relevant groups and events, collecting data to provide feedback on community needs, and assisting with program development. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Actively recruit new families who are not yet involved with DSACO and increase engagement with existing and new minority families. 
  • Serve as a liaison between DSACO and existing and new minority families by providing insights, recommendations, and implementation alongside DSACO team. 
  • Explore and establish partnerships with community organizations and businesses to enhance and expand collaborative minority outreach efforts. 
  • Promote inclusion and recruit participation for DSACO events. 
  • Assist in planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating DSACO-hosted educational seminars and programs for minority families. 
  • Respond to calls and emails requesting community linkages and referrals, as well as other requests. 
  • Connect and collaborate with other organizations that serve DSACO minority membership. 
  • Provide cultural expertise and support to DSACO to expand outreach efforts to intentionally engage new families. 
  • Maintain complete documentation on programs, seminars, and events. 
  • Represent DSACO at applicable community programs, resource fairs, and networking events. 
  • Assist with writing articles for DSACO newsletter. 
  • Support DSACO fundraisers and events through assigned duties as needed. 
  • Provide updates and reports, on a regular basis, to Program Manager of Diversity Outreach. 
  • Attends and participates in professional growth training and conferences as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission and vision of the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio. 
  • Familiarity and ability to empathize with the developmental disability community. 
  • Successful completion of background check and other pre-hire requirements as set forth by the organization and according to state and federal rules and regulations.  
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality with personal information. 
  • Strong communication skills and outstanding ability to maintain and foster relationships across a diverse set of individuals. 
  • Capable of working independently as well as part of a team. 
  • Ability to effectively and strategically communicate with people with Down syndrome and their families. 
  • Ability to maintain clear and organized notes and documentation. 
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including on weekends and nights, as required by events.
