Position Overview
The Program Coordinator of Medical Outreach is responsible for developing, strengthening, and maintaining relationships with healthcare professionals and medical institutions to enhance DSACO’s medical outreach efforts. This position ensures that people with Down syndrome and their families have access to current, accurate, and compassionate medical information and resources.
Primary Responsibilities
· Maintain a weekly presence at local Down syndrome clinics and assist in DSACO resource navigation & coordination.
· Provide current and up-to-date Down syndrome resources to medical professionals (physicians, nurses, genetic counselors and social workers) in the community.
· Engage local colleges and universities for medically-related training opportunities specific to Down syndrome medical care
· Recruit & lead DSACO’s Medical Advisory Committee.
· Collaborate with DSACO’s New Parent Services Coordinator.
· Review and promote local, state, and national Down syndrome research efforts.
· Maintain complete documentation of outreach efforts and provide reports and updates as needed to DSACO leadership
· Develop content for the DSACO newsletter.
· Connect and collaborate with partner organizations that provide services to DSACO families.
· Assist in planning and organizing the DSACO adult conference, including securing relevant healthcare speakers and coordinating logistics.
· Attend monthly Medical Outreach virtual meetings with other Down Syndrome Associations across the nation.
· Address family inquiries related to physician and healthcare needs and facilitate access to appropriate resources and services.
· Collaborate with Advancement team members to identify and pursue medical outreach-related funding opportunities.
· Maintain health referral authorization processes and work to expand accessibility by working with team to implement materials in additional languages as needed to better serve diverse populations.
· Implement educational sessions in collaboration with medical professionals to provide families with medically-focused tools and resources based on families’ expressed needs.
· Implement various healthcare-related training sessions for families to provide essential knowledge and resources to support the health and well-being of individuals with Down syndrome.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Passion for the mission and vision of the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio
· Must complete all necessary pre-hire requirements as set forth by the organization, partner medical facilities, and state and federal rules and regulations, including but not limited to a background check, drug screening, TB testing, and vaccination list
· Bachelor’s Degree in public health, human services, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.
· Current, valid Ohio driver’s license and personal car insurance documentation required.
· Must have the ability to effectively and strategically communicate with medical professionals, individuals with Down syndrome, and their families.
· Must maintain clear and organized notes and documentation.
· Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality with personal information
